Thanks to all of those that came out to IBC 2016 and visited the vMix booth. For existing customers or potential vMixers it was great to hear your stories and answer your questions.
We were located in Hall 11 which isn’t really near the rest of the live production companies but it was good for us as it was close to the door! It was a lot quicker to get to each morning! We also made use of some signage out the front which allowed some traffic from the main entrance through to the booth.
IBC is a long 5 day event that goes from 9:30 to 6 on most days, so understandably it can be a little draining. If you ever attend IBC make sure to wear comfortable shoes and get one of the maps. YOU WILL GET LOST!
We spoke to people from Nigeria all the way to the Faroe Islands! There was such a huge representation of people there this year. vMix users got a good look at vMix 17 features as well as a sneak peak at vMix 18 with Data Sources, Hamburger Menus and List Facelifts.
X-Keys graciously allowed us to give away an Xk-80 which drew quite the crowd on Monday, much to our surprise. Overall it was a very busy yet successful week. Even though it was extremely tiring, it looks like we might be back to do it all again next year!
This year at IBC, vMix will be exhibiting for the first time. The International Broadcasting Convention held each year in Amsterdam is Europe’s answer to NAB show in Las Vegas. It’s where the broadcast industry in Europe comes together to meet, display new products and talk about the the industry. There are over 1600 companies exhibiting with 55,000 attendees to view their products and services.
As this will be our first year testing the waters in Europe we have a relatively small presence but we be there to demo vMix 17 with a few cameras and talk about live production. We have a booth in the back of hall 11, for an interactive map click here.
We’ll be talking about Newtek NDI, Facebook Live integration and all the exciting features available in vMix 17. There will also be a giveaway or two, so make sure that you’re following us on Twitter and Facebook!
Newtek’s NDI (Network Device Interface) has opened up a huge number of possibilities in live production. Being able to easily send video and audio sources over the network is nothing short of amazing. The interactivity between hardware devices and software has allowed users to adopt new ways of creating content and bettering their production.
The Newtek NDI for Creative Cloud Plugin is yet another way to bring in content to your production via NDI. This plugin lets users of Adobe products such as Premiere to playback video projects directly via NDI into live productions. You don’t need to render the entire video, just playback the video LIVE in your workspace and it will be sent via NDI.
Basically you can fire up Adobe Premiere, create an animated title and then play that back through vMix via NDI. Need to change the title? Just go back to Premiere, change the title and play again. This means you have the ability to create animated lower thirds on the fly. You don’t need to generate 10 lower thirds before-hand you can just do it all live.
You can even just use Premiere and Adobe After Effects to bring in full scale videos too. Cutting it fine and don’t have time to render, then just play out directly through NDI to vMix.
To set it up you’ll need to install the Newtek NDI for Adobe CC plugin. The plugin has now been made free and is available via the Newtek Website- http://pages.newtek.com/NDI-Tools-Pack-Download.html. Then you need to enable playout through NDI via the Preferences. You’re then set to go. Just create your project, add it as an NDI source in vMix and you’ve got your new live content.

In case you missed the most recent vMix Fun Time Live Show, a new feature was unveiled for vMix 18! Check out the snippet of the show below.
The new vMix 18 feature is called Activators. Activators will allow you to activate functions on a MIDI or X-Keys device. Basically users will be able to send a signal to a device to say that an action is happening in vMix.
For example- If I transition a vMix input into the Output window, I can send a signal to the control device to turn on a light or change it’s colour! This will allow users to create their own control surfaces and add even more customization to their live production workflow.
The great thing is that it will also work with some motorised faders for audio on devices such as the Behringer X-Touch!
vMix is doing it’s best to set the standard in creating totally customisable workflows and user experiences!
