We’ve decided to extend the vMix Trial for the next month or so (March-April 2020). New vMix Trials will have 90 days to use an unwatermarked version of vMix PRO. We’re hoping that those who are in urgent need to stream over the coming months will be able to do so. We’re also hoping that everyone is able to help flatten the curve of Covid-19 so that people will be able to start congregating again in the near future.

This is a very uncertain time and we hope that everyone stays safe and looks out for each other. It’s a time of isolation but shouldn’t stop us from watching shows and streaming for our friends, colleagues and community members. We’re isolating here at vMix but still have the capacity to work from home to answer any questions you might have. As you can understand we’re receiving a large number of emails during this time, so our response may be a tad slower than usual, so we’re sorry about that!

To use the 90-day Trial, just download and install vMix from vMix.com. Then just enter your email address for the Trial when prompted. Ignore the 60 days everywhere, it will be for 90 days!

One of the biggest challenges that has faced live productions over the years is the Internet. Yes, the one thing that’s absolutely needed for live streaming! The lack of network infrastructure has made it near impossible to use the Internet to send remote cameras or productions. Trust me, we live in Australia and understand just how hard it can be to send video over what seems to be a tin can pieced together with some fishing line and being held up by a Hills Hoist!

We’ve received many emails over the last 10 years asking HOW CAN I BRING A REMOTE CAMERA INTO MY PRODUCTION? There are a range of options that are available but they’re usually out of everyone’s price range. You may have a satellite truck at your disposal but not every one has that luxury! Haivision saw an opportunity to create a protocol that would not only allow for remote video to be easily transmitted, but also be utilized if you had an unreliable Internet connection. This led to the creation of SRT.

SRT stands for ‘Secure Reliable Transport’, and is an open source video transport protocol and technology stack. SRT uses secure streams and easy firewall traversal to optimize streaming performance and deliver high-quality video over even the most unreliable networks.

Software development is a fun ride! You’re constantly updating features and functionality based on new tech and industry developments. When you have an engaged and helpful community, you’re also adding features based on suggestions from a variety of different workflows. As a result, features, interfaces and the ways in which you do things change! This means that training material is almost always out of date.

Unfortunately there isn’t really an easy way of replacing existing video tutorials, you need to upload new ones and hope that they catch on. We’ve had some tutorials on our YouTube page since the very beginning and looking back, things have changed quite a bit! Martin was sitting in the front of our office from 2 locations ago, using vMix 9 with a Matrox capture card in an external Thunderbolt capture device. There was no replay, no Facebook Live, no vMix Call, no SRT, no vMix GT, no vMix.com and no NDI. It’s amazing to see all of the different things that have become accessible over the past 10 years! Things have also changed a lot in the industry and live video production is now within reach of anyone with a computer. With these changes a lot of the language and workflows are now different, so we’ve tried to update our latest overview video to reflect some of these changes.

So this blog post is a bit of a look back as well as a chance to embed this video somewhere. It would be great for people to see the latest and greatest as opposed to a video that’s 7 years old!

How do I stream to Facebook Live in 1080?

With vMix you can now use the Facebook streaming settings and connect to Facebook live in 1080! You just need to create your Facebook Live stream using the Facebook option in the streaming settings, select a 1080 streaming option and then start streaming. There are no changes to the way you normally stream to Facebook, the only difference is now you can do it in full HD!
